This website is a welcome space for everyone. This has been intentionally designed as a space for advocacy and education first. Heroixx – a gender neutral term for the word “hero” was chosen to represent the heroic efforts that are required to educate and advocate for your bleeding disorder. This role has traditionally fallen to the women of our community; our partners, our mothers.
You will see the term “women” throughout the site and our resources, our language choice is purposeful and is to represent the historical dismissal of women with bleeding disorders. You will also see the term “people who menstruate” to allow space for all people who may face similar issues and challenges to feel welcome here. We wanted a website that did not continue to perpetuate the sexism that exists within our healthcare systems, that remains ignorant to the issues of women’s bleeding disorders. However, we also do not want to contribute to a system that continues to marginalize other groups of people. We commit to learning and growing in this domain of language and gender, and will continue to evolve, ensuring representation of everyone who may benefit from this information.
More recently, Hemophilia Ontario has committed to placing its focus on women living with bleeding disorders. This commitment led to the creation of Heroixx, and our ongoing commitment to our community.
Thank you for being here.
Each member of our community is a valuable part of who we are, and what we stand for. We invite you to become a part of our community!

Financial Assistance available to Hemophilia Ontario Members
Financial assistance is available to Hemophilia Ontario members who demonstrate need with expenses incurred in the care, treatment, or prevention of a bleeding disorder. Requests must demonstrate they are directly related to a bleeding disorder, and may require support from the applicant’s HTC team in some cases. Requests for parking must be directed to the HTC, which receives a set amount of funding from Hemophilia Ontario per year to cover these costs.
Hemophilia Ontario does not reimburse expenses that have already been incurred. Incurred expenses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you require a service that is not listed below, please submit your request and we will assess it on a case-by-case basis. You will be contacted within 2 business days to assess your request.
